GREAT RV VALUES

Award’s beneficial aerodynamic designs are visible from all angles. From the front you will notice that the LP bottles are enclosed thus reducing the wind turbulence. The nose cone shape of the front moves the wind flow over the top causing downward pressure on the tires providing better contact with the road. An inverted hull shape of the roof gives great side to side stability. This same design shape keeps displaced air close to the sides reducing the vacuum area of the trailer. Reducing the vacuum area helps to decrease drag and sway. Award continues with their sleek aerodynamic design at the rear of the trailer. There is a downward slope to the roof at the rear reducing the vacuum and drag. Drag will affect your tow vehicle, making it work harder and use more fuel.

Balance is the keyword when it comes to the handling ability of Award’s travel trailers. The heavier items, appliances, air conditioner and holding tanks are centered over the axles. One waste water tank ahead is located before the fresh water container and one behind. As your fresh water drains you are able to keep an even distribution and your trailer stays balanced. This tends to keep the tongue weight constant. A well balanced trailer equals good handling and stability. This make an Award travel trailer a very safe trailer to tow. Award further improves their stability with the roof design that allows for lower sidewalls. Lowering the center of gravity greatly increases the steadiness of the trailer.

Award uses four wheel independent suspension axles. This provides better shock absorption and allows the axle to resume normal operation quicker after encountering a pothole or other rough surface. Professional truck drivers refer to this phenomena as “ back slap”. Award Recreational Vehicles Inc. puts quality into their design and construction to make sure that your recreational vehicle experience is enjoyable and comfortable.

The tongue attaches at a point near the axles. This allows the tongue to be constructed narrower. This will increase the trailer’s responsiveness as well as decreasing the turning radius.

How can this trailer weigh less without sacrificing quality? Award’s forethought and design work pays off again. The frame has punched holes to lighten it and then they flange these hole to increase the strength. Award’s frame weighs less than conventional frames. Additional weight reduction is possible by designing the frame to be narrower and thinner on the ends. In the middle where most of the weight is carried the frame is wider and thicker. By using #1 kiln-dried hardwood more weight can be shaved off . Award uses laminated construction to decrease the weight and increase the structural strength. This style of construction means less heavy wall studs and floor joist.

Most of the high quality travel trailers that Award Recreational Vehicles Inc. builds are to large to be considered by Lightweight RV News. Award’s model CL23 pushes the upper limits of the travel trailers we consider for this website. However, their unique forethought in design and construction made this model a must include for Lightweight RV News.
